Is Tren Really Harder on You Than Other Steroids?
Trenbolone has a reputation that no other anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) quite matches. Ask around and you'll hear about the mood swings, the short temper, the night sweats and the cardio that suddenly feels twice as hard. Most of what's been written about it, though, comes from small samples, case reports and interviews. A 2026 study in Drug and Alcohol Review by Bonenti and colleagues set out to put numbers on that reputation. They compared men who had used trenbolone in the past year with men who had used other AAS but not trenbolone, and asked both groups the same questions about the problems they put down to their steroid use.
1. Who was in the study
The data came from the Global Drug Survey 2024, a large anonymous online survey run every year. The analysis included 1,146 men from many countries who reported using AAS in the past 12 months. Their average age was about 31.
- Trenbolone group: 237 men who had used injectable trenbolone in the past 12 months.
- Non-trenbolone group: 909 men who had used AAS in the past 12 months, but not trenbolone.
Both groups answered yes or no to a fixed list of concerns they linked to their AAS use. The psychological list covered anger or aggression, low mood, rapid mood swings, irrational excitability, restlessness or irritability, loss of interest in other things and relationship problems. The physical list covered sexual function, hair loss and hair gain, sexual organs, fertility, gynecomastia, breast size, skin and acne, and perceived effects on the heart and liver.
