Insulin: Every Training Day or Only on High-Carb Days?
Opener
I got a question from a listener in prep, using insulin and growth hormone for the first time. He'd been dosing insulin before and after every workout and asked whether he should switch to high-carb days only. My answer was yes, and it starts with the most common advice online.
<!-- 26WZD_Da0RA@33s -->"I would, and I'll give a couple of reasons why. One, if you go online, what's the first thing you hear as a protocol with insulin? Use it with your workouts. That's what everyone does, and everyone doesn't look good. There's probably a different approach."
1. Growth follows the food, not the workout
The habit of dosing around training comes from a bigger assumption about where growth happens.
<!-- 26WZD_Da0RA@60s–94s (client-workload anecdote cut) -->"We have this weird thing: because we lift weights to build muscle, we think everything happens with the workouts. We think it's all training, and we focus everything around the training. People think they should take their orals before training. The orals increase protein synthesis. Yes, you might get some androgenic effects that improve training, but that improves your training. That doesn't necessarily improve the fact that you're synthesizing muscle from the training after the training. Everything should be focused around the food."
