Your Rear Delts Are What Make You Look Wide
When people want wider shoulders, they go straight to lateral raises. Side delt work has its place, but it isn't what makes you look wide. Stand relaxed in front of a mirror and look at what actually sticks out the farthest to the side. It's the back of the shoulder. That's why rear delts are the head I care about most, and it's why I start my shoulder workouts with them.
1. The rear delt is what sticks out the farthest
Most people picture the side delt as the widest point of the body because of its name. When your arms hang relaxed, though, the side delt turns slightly toward the front, and the rear delt is what forms the outside edge.
From a physique standpoint, rear delts are really where it's at as far as delts. If you want to look wide, if you want to look thick, it's rear delts. Everyone's got front delts. If you want that three-dimensional look standing from the side, you want a really thick rear delt. If you want to look really wide from the front, it's actually your rear delt that sticks out the farthest to the side, not your side delt. Your side delt actually points towards the front a little bit when you're relaxed.
